In any type of online poker, whether you are playing real money poker tournaments, cash game poker, or even playing free online poker, you'll find that there are specific ways that you can measure up your opponents and figure out how they play. A lot of this is going to come by watching the players play, but the best thing that you can consistently to do to gain an edge on other players in poker games is take notes on the type of player that they are. This will help you put each opponent on a range when you are involved in hands with them. Today we are going to take a look at the different ways to measure up poker players when playing online multiplayer poker.
Loose Aggressive (LAG)
Loose aggressive players are going to be the types that you are going to want to sit back and simply wait for a strong hand to play against them with. The main reason for this is because no matter what type of poker you are playing, they are going to be playing a wide range of hands and will be aggressive when doing so. For example, this means that if you are playing free online poker and you attempt to bluff a LAG player, that there's a very good chance that they are going to be calling down your bluff with something weak, but more than likely will be raising it because of how aggressive they play. This also means that it can be tough to put these players on a hand because they could play any type of starting hand that you could imagine.
Tight Aggressive (TAG)
Tight aggressive players are the ones that you are potentially going to be steal the blinds from fairly often. Even when playing free online poker when there is no real cash involved, this type of player is simply going to play strong hands. It's important to note though, that this type of player is going to be incredibly aggressive when they do get that strong hand though. That means that when they end up playing a hand and are betting at you, you are going to need to have something strong in order to hang around through that hand!
Nit
A "nit" in online multiplayer poker is the type of player who is going to be very tight and passive or a sucker in poker parlance. This is definitely the player that you are going to want to take the blinds from, but there's a good chance that you could have trouble getting a good read on this type of player because even if they pick up a strong hand they may not raise you with it. Instead, they could potentially just let you bet into them consistently and just call all the way down. These types of players are probably the least common I'd say, but it's normally the type of player who is very careful with the games they play and the limits that they play as well.
